Make the old new again by repurposing blog content. It’s a great way to save time and increase the longevity of your work for new audiences. Keep in mind, though, that not all blog content is worthy of repurposing. The content must be timeless or at least worthy of being updated.
“Content repurposing doesn’t just mean that you reuse an old piece of content again and again. True repurposing requires that we alter it to make it fresh and appealing to a new audience.”
Search through your blog archives to find your evergreen content; that is, content which continues to be relevant long past its publication. Typically, your evergreen content is written about a relevant and timeless topic. You can refer to your Google Analytics reports to give a good indication of how relevant and timeless a blog post really is.
Here are five value-added ways you can begin using for repurposing blog content:
1. Make a SlideShare Presentation
SlideShare has 60 million unique visitors each month. That is a substantial reach your blog content can capitalize on for more engagement. Pull out statistics, quotes and the main points onto slides to give an easy-to-read summary of your content.
Use PowerPoint or Prezi to create your presentation deck. Once complete, share it to SlideShare.
2. Create an Infographic
Our brains process images 60,000 times faster than text. This makes images one of the best ways to earn our attention. It is also 30 times more likely that an infographic will be read over your text blog posts.
If your blog content is data heavy, has plenty of statistics or has complicated concepts, using an infographic displays your information in a way that can be easily understood and highlights your main points.
Buffer recommends programs like Piktochart or Visually to create infographics without the help of a graphic designer.
3. Update Old Articles with New Information
Things change and new information comes to light. You may find some blog content could use a refresh. Maybe there was a point you were unable to explore at the time the piece was written that could now be covered with new information. Or perhaps a new study has been released that would support your original thoughts.
Instead of writing something new, think about repurposing an older article to save time and keep your content up-to-date. You will likely be able to reuse the majority of the content. When republishing, let your audience know where the content originated from.
4. Create an eBook
Repurposing blog content into an eBook is a superb way to refresh existing content, but also create a lead generation asset. eBooks can help grow sales pipelines with the added bonuses of thought-leadership and audience education.
Tackling your first eBook by recycling blog content is the simplest and fastest way to start a content-driven lead generation program. 5. Incorporate into a Newsletter Series
A newsletter series creates a perfect vehicle for collecting more leads. You can use a series of related blog posts or break down one blog into sections (listicle posts are great for this). The goal is to send out a daily email that uses repurposed content.
As an example, I could easily break down my blog The 5 Must-Have Blog Strategies into a 5-day newsletter series. Each email would outline one of the ‘go-to’ types of blogs. Although it is an older (but still relevant) piece of content, I can increase its longevity and introduce it to new readers.
So, before you start writing your next blog post, consider implementing one or more of these 5 value-added ways to save time and extend the life of your work by showcasing it for new audiences.
